James' Journey into Coffee, Marketing, and the Wonders of AI

Hey and Welcome to the Bloom!

I’m glad you found my small corner of the internet. If it didn’t make sense “The Bloom” is the first water you pour over your ground coffee, it’s a ‘Special’ coffee word.
I’m James by the way! I live in South Africa (yes that country that turns off the power on a schedule).
On the topic of coffee. (I’m drinking some right now!) You’ll find a lot of coffee on this blog. I’m starting this blog as a hobby, to post about my passions. My bud calls me a bit of a coffee snob. So we’ll be dabbling in a bit of snobbery here. I will also geek out about AI, and marketing!

My Background in Marketing

My marketing journey starts back in 2021. I decided to invest in my future by joining the Affluent Academy. They teach you how to start a Social Media Marketing Agency and run Facebook Ads. I battled my motivations for a while before getting serious in 2022, landing my first client. A coffee roastery in e-commerce. In the end, my progression ground to a halt because I didn't prospect for new clients (my outbound game was bad).
Since October 2022 I’ve been working with a marketing agency in my local area, running Facebook ads and learning a lot about my personal work ethic.
Marketing attracts me because of its challenges. I get bored quickly with repetition. Marketing always offers something new to master. Kind of like my addiction to getting new single-origin coffee beans every month!

A Love Affair with Coffee

My coffee passion started with our late-night high school dormitory coffee club. We were a group of 4-5 boys and had French presses, mugs, a kettle, and time.
My friend’s mom was our coffee supplier. She had a roastery. I often bought pre-ground coffee from her. We had this weird unspoken synergy, without saying or planning anything there was always coffee, sugar, milk, french-presses, and a kettle.
From there on I graduated high school (2019), and fell hard for the pour-over brewing style. I got a knockoff Chemex (by accident), a coffee scale, hand grinder and a gooseneck kettle. I brewed lots of bad coffee back then.
Now my setup is solid. I’ve found my favourite roaster (I love sweet, fruity natural processed single origins), I have a Hario v60, a Baratza encore grinder, and the perfect 200g white cups. I use this setup every day, almost as much as I use ChatGPT!

Exploring the World of Artificial Intelligence:

I got drawn hard to AI because it can do so much! It started when my friend asked me, “Have you played with ChatGPT yet?” on the 14th of March 2023 (yes I just scrolled through tons of WhatsApp to find that).

Probably a month later I joined the ChatGPT 4 club, and from there on I went mad with its capabilities. I read everything I could find about prompt engineering. Later messed with Midjourney as well, but that’s expensive.
I’ve made many prompts, mostly related to copywriting, but recently I’m working on creating a kitchen Assistant Prompt that helps you cook based on what you have in your kitchen. I’m also making a tool that takes a voice note and structures a blog outline for those spontaneous ideas!
AI is here to stay so expect to see content on it regularly. I’m having a blast exploring its capabilities so if you’re an AI geek you’re in the right place!

Personal & Work Projects:

All my hobbies are about making things! I’ve done mosaic, crochet, pixel art, ink art, creating notion tools, and recently AI tools.
I always have a project I’m working on. Right now I'm making an AI helper for the kitchen. It keeps track of food and helps find new recipes based on what you have.

Before, I made a tool using AI. It reminds me to sit up straight when I work. I plan to use more AI and programming in the future. So, expect new things from me often. I'll share the tools I make, my marketing or AI projects, and anything in between!

Stick Around!

Learning new things excites me, and I love sharing what I learn, I can’t wait to see where this blog takes me, sharing my passions, and experiences and helping others grow from what I’ve learned.

P.S. My personal challenge

I’ll be trying to put something out once a week consistently, that’s my personal challenge to myself!
